The Prowler
All work and no play makes the Prowler a dull cat, so please bare with this feline if this week's column isn't as witty or humorous as usual. At the time of writing, the Prowler just wants to go home and take a cat-nap!
No matter how tired, this cat always has eyes for the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley's prolific press releases. This time, the topic is a used vehicle drive. The non-profit animal shelter encourages folks to donate their used cars, trucks or campers. Not only are they tax-deductible, but sale proceeds greatly benefit the shelter's animals in the way of food, medications, toys and other necessities. To learn more, call 408.727.3383.
Another interesting tidbit having to do with animals involves 13-year-old Los Gatan Christina McGurran. On June 27, Christina captured the Reserve World Championship title at the World Championship Paint Horse Show in Fort Worth, Texas. Of course, credit is also due to her horse, a 9-year-old gelding named Just Passing Thru.
For those not familiar with equine terms, "paint" does not refer to a horse stuck carrying an artists' supplies. It is a term for the distinctive, pretty markings exhibited by certain types of horses. It is irregular and consists of various color splotches--almost as though someone flung paint cans at the horse!
Rock hounds take note! The Santa Clara Valley Gem & Mineral Society is having its monthly meeting July 24 at 7:45 p.m. at the Belwood Cabana, at 100 Belwood Gateway in Los Gatos. The guest speaker is Ted Hadley of the Bay Area Mineralogists. Admission is free and everyone is welcome. Call 408.356.8254.
