San Francisco-based Make *A*Circus, a nonprofit performance troupe that both entertains children and teaches them how to entertain others, stopped in Los Gatos during its summer tour on June 30, on the front lawn of Los Gatos High School.

The afternoon began with a show, "The Zucchinis Unplugged," by professional performers portraying the Zucchini Family and their California cousins, the Avocados. After entertaining the crowd, the Make*A*Circus performers offered free instructional circus workshops to interested children from the audience. Afterwards, Los Gatos' young performers put on their own show.

The event was sponsored by the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation. Make*A*Circus has performed its blend of participatory circus and theater since 1974, when founder Peter Frankham brought his Circus with a Purpose from the streets of London to the Bay Area.

    Audience
Youngsters of all ages piled on to Los Gatos High School's front lawn to take in the antics of Make*A*Circus. Some of them would later take part in a circus workshop to become performers themselves.

    Alvin Avocado
'Alvin Avocado,' one of Make*A*Circus' creatively named troupe, shows 10-year-old Jeraldin Barela how to juggle tennis balls. Jeraldin and many other children participated in a free circus workshop and later showed off their skills to the rest of the audience.

Lauren Steiner Make*A*Circus performer Lauren Steiner is wowed by the crowd while fellow entertainer Stephanie Abrams wows the crowd with her agility.
