Accident closes off Highway 17, requires detour
On July 18, at 2 a.m., a tractor pulling two trailers going southbound on Highway 17 ran off the right shoulder and down an embankment near the Glenwood cutoff. According to CHP officer Heath Scribner, the driver claimed that he had been cut off by a small, black car, but CHP could find no evidence of the other vehicle. The driver suffered a minor cut on his right ear.
The CHP waited until 9:30 a.m. to tow the vehicle and equipment, closing off both lanes of southbound 17. Traffic was detoured to Summit Road for two hours; the CHP then opened up the fast lane, and opened up the right lane at 2:30 p.m.

District reminds residents to conserve water
The Santa Clara Valley Water District is conducting a summer campaign on saving water to save electricity. Because pumping water takes significant amounts of electricity, residents need to learn to decrease water usage. While the water district has backup generators for emergencies, a long blackout could cause delayed water delivery.
