Street work causes gas line rupture

PG&E workers jackhammer a hole in the street to seal off a high pressure gas line ruptured by a backhoe operator for a construction crew on July 19. The County Fire Department responded to the 12:20 p.m. 911 call and immediately phoned the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department, which shut down traffic at the corner of Winchester Boulevard and Wimbledon Drive. PG&E was called to the scene to fix the pipe, and the street was reopened at 3 p.m. The backhoe operator was taken to the hospital for gas inhalation. No one else was injured.
