Award Winners

Los Gatos Weekly-Times photographer George Sakkestad earned first-place honors in the California Newspaper Publishers Association annual newspaper competition for his photo essay on last summer's Cat's fire. The newspaper competed with other weeklies throughout the state in the same circulation category. Weekly-Times political cartoonist Steven DeCinzo took a second place, and Robin Mendez, the newspaper's editorial production manager, placed second in the design category. The Weekly-Times' parent publication, Metro, took first place in design and a second place in the columns, criticism/commentary categories; and Metro Santa Cruz earned first-place awards in lifestyle coverage and columns/criticism and a second place for a sports story.
