Los Gatos Weekly-TimesSports BriefsA 'Great Race' It wasn't the Great Race-- that's a special race run each winter from Saratoga to Los Gatos. But it certainly was a great race when 41-year-old Brad Armstrong and 53-year-old Tim Riley went head-to-head in a mile run prior to a regular workout for the Los Gatos Running Club. There was no prize money on the line, just a friendly wager. The runners remained close together for two laps before Armstrong pulled in front by 15 yards to start the lap three. But with an impressive kick in the final stretch, Riley pulled even with just 20 yards to go. The race went right down to the final strides with Riley snapping the tape for the victory. His winning time was 5:42.9. Baseball's Best Play continues this week in the Northern California Divisional Tournament hosted by the Los Gatos Little League at Baggerly Field. Games will be played each weekday at 5:30 p.m. with the championship game set for Aug. 2, 1 p.m. An "if necessary" game is slated for Aug. 3, 1 p.m. The winner of this tournament advances to the Western Regionals in San Bernadino, and that winner moves on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. Dammit Run The Los Gatos Dammit Run returns for its 24th running on Aug. 16 when runners will take off from Los Gatos High School for a five-mile run up to the face of Lexington Dam and back again. For registration information, call 354-7365 or 395-4311.
