The Prowler

Who says there ain't no cure for the summertime blues? Surely not the Prowler, a resourceful cat who knows there's always something to do.

Look no further than this column for a few ideas to get started. For adults and teenagers bitten by the acting bug or who simply want a taste of community theater, Theatre in the Mountains is holding auditions Aug. 1 and 2 for its upcoming production of Cheaper by the Dozen. The Loma Prieta Community Center is the place; 353-9999 is the number to call.

All local music fans probably know about the 1997 Music in the Plaza schedule by now, but in case the list has been misappropriated, this Sunday's free concert at 5 p.m. consists of oldies and classics performed by the band Holiday. Bring a picnic dinner and stay awhile! That's what this cat likes to do.

Did you music fans also know that the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company hosts live music every Saturday night? Another local coffee shop, Cafe Rouge, hosts something a little different: poetry readings the first Wednesday of each month. Featured poets read first, followed by open-mic offerings from the audience. The Prowler, lapping java in the shadows during a few readings, can attest to the quality of these aspiring poets.

Speaking of eating, drinking and making merry, the Wildwood Shakespeare Festival is coming this August in Saratoga. Along with The Merry Wives of Windsor by the Bard, Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island will be performed. Being a primarily outdoor cat, the Prowler is excited about the opportunity
to catch some cool plays in a cool setting like Wildwood Park. Call 868-1248 for show times, dates and prices.
