The Prowler
Is it just The Prowler, or have readers also noticed how often the saying "when it rains, it pours" is applicable in Cat Town? It seems like whenever there's one interesting event coming up, there are 10 more. Unfortunately, this cat can't preview them all, but here are a few in the not-so-distant future.
From children who revere them as heroes to women who ogle them as hot hunks, everyone can see Los Gatos' firefighters (Local 1165) pounding the pavement Aug. 4 as part of a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., they'll be hanging around the intersection of N. Santa Cruz Avenue and Highway 9, asking motorists stopped at traffic signals to drop a donation into an empty fireman's boot.
Helping senior citizens is also a good cause, especially to the folks who run Live Oak Adult Day Services at 19 High School Court. The nonprofit organization is holding an open house on Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Along with refreshments and live music, the event is also a chance for the staff to gives tours of the facility and explain its specialized programs for seniors. Call 408.354.4782.
Remember how the Prowler has mentioned comedy nights and open mikes at The Cats Restaurant? This cat is happy to report these events are now set for the first and third Wednesday of every month. Warming up the place, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., is solo musician and comedian Scott Channon, who will sing rock, pop and folk tunes. Starting at 8 p.m. is stand-up comedy by the featured comedians of the month, after which time aspiring jokesters from the audience can take the stage. The Cats is at 17533 Highway 17, on the south side.
