    Sports Briefs

    Swan second

    Joshua Swan of Los Gatos finished second in his age group in the first annual Saratoga Little Junior Golf Classic held July 10 at the Saratoga Country Club.

    Swan fired a 48 to finish second in the boys 9-and-under age division. Ryan Williams of Morgan Hill was first in the age group with a 10-over par 45.

    All-American

    Christa Conom of Monte Sereno has been named an All-American by United States Junior Olympic Volleyball in the age 16 open division.

    Conom, 15, was a co-captain for the City Beach 16s team that just won the USA Junior Olympic championship in Salt Lake City, Utah. Conom, in her fifth season of club volleyball, has played 16s for the three straight years, and has now won All-American honors in two straight seasons.

    The local volleyball sensation was the starting setter for the Presentation High School varsity team last fall.

    Syracuse Honors

    Jordan Brophy-Hilton of Los Gatos was one of 32 members of the rowing team at Syracuse University to win a place on the school's Athletic Director Honor Roll. For Brophy-Hilton, a senior, it was her fourth time on the list that honors student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

    Soccer Camps

    Major League Soccer Camps will return to Los Gatos this summer for players in the under-6 through under-18 age divisions.

    Camps are slated for Aug. 13-17 at Fisher Middle School. The cost is $65 for players ages 5-6 (5-6:30 p.m.) and $105 for players ages 7-18 (4-7 p.m.).

    Volleyball camps

    The Vision Volleyball Club will an host indoor volleyball camps for girls this summer at Los Gatos High School. The camp will be held Aug. 6-9, 6-8:30 p.m. each day, for girls in grades 9-12.

    Camp participants will receive instruction in volleyball fundamentals and tactics, and will learn the basics of team play. The cost is $140 per player, and all campers receive T-shirts.

    Longtime Los Gatos High School volleyball coach Joe Ripp will run the camp. For more information, call 408.264.7801.
