POST donation shows town's commitment
I am writing to you in support of the concept of open space here in our lovely town of Los Gatos.
The recent action by a majority of the town council, Messrs. Blanton, Attaway and Pirzynski, in funding a $50,000 grant of public funds to the Peninsula Open Space Trust in order to help fund the acquisition of the nearby Bear Creek Redwoods, sends a clear message that the quality of life in our community is a goal that requires an ongoing public commitment.
Los Gatos is a great place to live; let's keep it that way.

Los Gatos
What's the big secret? Where are all the signs?
I haven't been in Los Gatos long. I just want to say though that I've been discovering some lovely things about this town, quite by accident. Mostly because that's the only way I can find them.
About a month ago, on my way home from the store, I made a wrong turn off Main Street and curved down around this little hidden area. And there by these beautiful condominiums and oak trees was Forbes Mill museum. You'd think it was hiding down there. It was closed, and I was in a hurry, but what a charming place. I didn't notice a sign on Main Street, though I think there's a tiny one. It seems to me this wonderful old building and museum should get more promotion, or at least a bigger sign.
Then there's the Los Gatos Creek Trail. I'd heard of it, but I couldn't find it. I looked everywhere for some sign to show an entrance. I asked several friends who couldn't tell me. Then one day when I was walking around Vasona park, which is easy to find, I stumbled on a path that starts just across the bridge from the park's train station.
It turned out to be a beautiful section of the Los Gatos Creek Trail. For those who don't know, that part of the trail winds through trees, along the creek and over the freeway to Forbes Mill. What a surprise.
I've also discovered, again by accident, that there's another path behind Forbes Mill that goes all the way to Lexington Dam.
If I hadn't walked the east side of Vasona the other day, I wouldn't have realized there was another extension to the trail that goes to Campbell and beyond. I haven't taken the beyond yet.
Isn't there some way to mark the entrance to these trails and important landmarks?
Why not put up some of those nice street-type signs that point in lots of directions designating various Los Gatos landmarks and trails?
Or do Los Gatans want to keep these places secret? Maybe they want to keep the places for themselves and hide them from tourists. Well, it's working.
On the other hand, maybe Los Gatans hope the bicyclists won't find the trails. Sometimes I think the people on bikes are hell-bent on getting as close to walkers as they can without actually taking off an ear.
Even when they ring their little bells, they zoom right up next to me. But that, along with people walking their dogs without a leash, is another matter.
