Winstead's Legacy
Joe Winstead leaves the Los Gatos High School baseball program after decades of leadership and an impressive record that will be his legacy. Winstead, who started his teaching and coaching career at Los Gatos in 1959, and Wayne Senini, who joined the staff in 1968, have retired from baseball after leading the Wildcats to seven league championships.
During Winstead's 38 years as the varsity head coach, his clubs recorded 545 wins in 933 games for an impressive .584 winning percentage. The Wildcats finished first, second or third in 24 of those 38 seasons. Nearly 200 former Wildcats have gone on to play baseball beyond high school, including 23 who signed professional contracts.
