Open Space District needs volunteers

For those who enjoy working with children and have some time available on weekdays, this volunteer opportunity may be a good match. Join the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District's team of enthusiastic field-trip leaders as the environmental education program "Spaces and Species: Exploring Natural Communities" begins its third year.

Outdoor Education Leaders will spend days hiking, interpreting nature and leading educational games and activities with small groups of 4th- to 6th-grade students. Their four-hour field trips to regional open space includes a habitat hike through oak woodland, chaparral and grasslands, as well as a pond prowl and aquatic lab, in which the children interactively explore a freshwater pond community.

Those interested should attend an informational meeting at the district offices, 330 Distel Circle, Los Altos, September 9 at 7 p.m., or call 415/691-1200.
