Los Gatos Weekly-TimesOn CampusHigh school offers free lunch program The Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District recently announced it will provide a free and reduced-price meals program for eligible students under the National School Lunch Program. Household size and income are used to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price meals. Application forms are being sent to all households in the district. Those interested may also pick up an application at their school principal's office. Four students make dean's list Amy Rose Williams, Sarah Lynn Kishler, April Lynne Whalen and Shelby Edwards recently made the dean's list at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The students maintained a minimum grade-point average of 3.75 to earn the honor. Williams, a junior, is an educational studies major. Edwards, a senior, is majoring in business administration. Kishler is a senior majoring in English, and Whalen is a senior comparative literature major. Five LGHS students complete Jumpstart Five Los Gatos High School students recently completed the Jumpstart program in the department of art of Oregon State University: Sara Scroggins, Rohner Segnitz, Beth Cushing, Iming Lin and Pia DiStefano. Segnitz won the Outstanding Junior award and DiStefano was selected as the Outstanding Sophomore. The two students will return to the program next year, all expenses paid. The program is held annually allowing 75 students from the West Coast to study in a college environment. American Academy honors Los Gatan Biren Kamdar of Los Gatos High School was recently honored by the American Academy of Achievement for outstanding leadership and academic achievement. Kamdar had a 4.465 GPA and was salutatorian. He was editor of the school newspaper, and volunteers at Good Samaritan Hospital. Kamdar works as a Little League umpire and bookkeeper and competes in cross country and tennis. He plans to pursue a career in medicine. Academic scholarships to Germany available High school students ages 15-18 with basic German schooling are eligible to apply for a scholarship to spend an academic year in Germany. Academic Year in the USA International is accepting applications for this scholarship, which covers program fees for cultural orientations, placement with a German host family, enrollment in a local high school and in-country support. Participants learn a foreign language and make new friends while gaining an advantage in college entrance applications.
