Los Gatos Weekly-TimesPhotograph by Robert Scheer Remembering good old school daysWhen summer vacation starts, kids usually can't wait to put school behind them for a while. Chances are, however, that the 20 students who participated in Sharon Regner's overnight "mission" at Loma Prieta School would have been happy to stay in school, summer or no. Regner is the school's space science teacher. On May 30, Regner turned her classroom into a full-scale space station complete with an orbiter, mission control and Mars base. The students "launched" into space, had dinner, put together a satellite and slept in the space station before returning home the next morning. While they're waiting anxiously to get back to school, the Mars probe is probably keeping many of the future space scientists busy on the Internet.
