Alleged child molester has preliminary trial
Lee Thomas Bjorn, 54, will be at the Santa Clara County Superior Court for a preliminary trial Aug. 14, where the judge will decide whether or not there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a formal trial.
Bjorn is accused of molesting two Los Gatos girls in the 1970s, one of them his own daughter. Bjorn was arrested at the Los Gatos post office Feb. 13, and is accused of committing similar crimes in Santa Cruz County.
Father of dead boy went to local school
Brian Gilbert, the 24-year-old man accused of killing his 5-month-old son by leaving him in a car on a hot day, is a Los Gatos High School graduate. It took Gilbert, who graduated in 1996, five years to earn his diploma.
It is not known if Gilbert's wife, Cheryl Der Gilbert, also attended Los Gatos High. The two were high school sweethearts and have been married for almost a year.
Los Gatos McWhorter's resurrected
McWhorter's, the stationary store on Los Gatos Boulevard, will reopen before Aug. 15. The closing was announced in June after its parent company, U.S. Office Products, filed for bankruptcy. As a result, the 35 McWhorter's stores in Northern California held "going out of business" sales.
On Aug. 1, a San Rafael company, Ideal Stationers, announced that it had bought 10 of those locations, including the Los Gatos store. The store will open under the same name and will offer products similar to those of its predecessor.
