The Prowler
Although newspapers are known for both previews and reviews, the Prowler's preference is usually for the former. After all, what good does it do readers--other than make them envious--to hear how awesome something was after it's over? With that in mind, this cat has a few upcoming events to mention.
What if bugs needed a cup of coffee to get up each morning? The answers to this and other whimsical questions can be found in Dreamscapes, an installation running Aug. 9-Sept. 29 at the Los Gatos Museum of Art and Natural Science at 4 Tait Ave.
Bay Area mixed media artist Paul Nowicki, who showed at "The Tait" a few years ago, returns with more 3-D dioramas featuring intricate worlds born from his overactive imagination. The public is invited to an artist's reception Aug. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. Regular museum hours are Wednesday through Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.
For readers who enjoy sports, young people and volunteerism, the Silicon Valley chapter of the Special Olympics is looking for patient, good-humored folks to serve as volunteer coaches for mentally challenged athletes who'll be participating in the upcoming fall season. Sports include volleyball, soccer, bowling, cycling and running. The next volunteer training program is Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. Call 408.392.0170 or visit www.sonc.org.sccso on the Internet.
Wine fans won't want to miss Savannah-Chanelle Vineyards' Summer Release Party on Aug. 12, which features wine-tasting of new varietals, gourmet hors d'oeuvres and music. Cost is $25 per person. Call 408.741.2934.
