Los Gatos Weekly-TimesThe ProwlerFrom morning until night, there's always something interesting going on in the community if you know where it's at. For those who don't know where to look, that's OK, because the Prowler does. With its 8 a.m. opening, the Los Gatos Farmers' Market caters to early risers. Although it's usually the same thing every Sunday, some mornings hold surprises. On Aug. 23 at about 10 a.m., Eric Tosh, who will serve as chef when the revamped Village House restaurant reopens, offers a cooking demo using items commonly found at the FM. This cat hears there may be tasty samples for shoppers who put down their produce for a few minutes and give him an audience. Since many kids are also early risers, perhaps that's why the Wild Bird Center on Blossom Hill Road holds its summer series of fun and learning workshops from 9 to 10 a.m. This summer's activities are over except for two: a scavenger hunt on Aug. 19 and Bat Buddies on Aug. 26. The hunt has kids exploring the store and surrounding outdoors for nature items. All participants receive prizes. The bat program includes facts about bats, a necklace project for younger tykes and a 3-D bat cave for older kids. For reservations and fee information, call 358-WILD. For people who share the Prowler's nocturnal preferences, take a hike! That would be a summer night hike, offered by the Youth Science Institute. From 8 to 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, YSI instructor Patricia Kucker leads children and adults through Sanborn Park, located in Saratoga. Participants will use their senses of hearing, sight, smell and touch to gain a new appreciation for life in the woods after dark. Call 867-6940 or 356-4945.
