Ray and Carolyn Silva of Los Gatos announce the engagement of their daughter, Shannon Melinda, to Matthew Edward Severson, son of Gary R. Severson of Kirkland, Wash., and Mrs. John D. Hussey of Rancho Palos Verdes.

The bride-to-be is a graduate of Valley Christian High School and Pepperdine University. She is an executive assistant in sales and marketing for the Oakland Athletics Baseball Co.

Her fiancé is a graduate of Palos Verdes High School and the University of Washington. He is a corporate advertising account manager with the Oakland Athletics.

They plan a February wedding.
