John Sorenson

Former Los Gatos resident John R. Sorenson died July 18 at the age of 38.

Born Feb. 25, 1959, in the San Jose/Los Gatos area, Sorenson graduated from Los Gatos High School, where he enjoyed playing football for four years. His team nickname was "Cannonball."

Sorenson worked in many fine dining establishments in the Bay Area as a sous chef. In his free time, he coached his stepson Joe's sports teams and was involved with Joe's Cub Scout troop.

Survivors include wife Ronda Sorenson of San Jose; stepson Joe Hernandez of San Jose; brother Jack Sorenson of Saratoga and parents John and Amelia Sorenson of Saratoga.

Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to the City of San Jose Solari Community Center, 3590 Cas Drive, San Jose, 95111.

Dennis Caton

Former Saratoga and Los Gatos resident Dennis James Caton died of cancer June 5 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was 61.

Born Nov. 13, 1935, in Newcastle-Under-Lyme, England, Caton earned an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from England's Stafford University. He was a Fellow of the English Institution of Electrical Engineers and was also a certified amateur radio operator.

Caton settled in the Bay Area in 1967, living in Los Gatos and Los Altos before residing in Saratoga from 1975 to 1980. He then moved to Colorado Springs. Among other jobs, Caton worked for Philco, Ford, I.S.S., ROLM Manufacturing and IBM. He retired in 1987.

Survivors include wife Joanne Butterworth Caton of Colorado Springs, son Michael James Caton of Boulder and daughter Julianne Caton of Colorado Springs.

Memorial services have been held.
