    Congressman to speak on seniors' issues

    On Aug. 15, Congressman Mike Honda will participate in a forum on seniors' issues at Los Gatos Meadows, a retirement community. The forum will begin at 10 a.m. and will be held in the lounge of the Meadows, located at 110 Wood Road.

    Honda, who represents California's 15th Congressional District, is expected to speak in detail on Social Security. Residents of the Meadows and the town are invited to come. For more information, contact Nancy Castro at 408.354.0688.

    Crash near Highway 9 takes life

    Chew Le Yuen, 54, of Santa Clara died on Aug. 7 when his car went off the embankment on Highway 17. Yuen was evidently on northbound 17 just south of Los Gatos-Saratoga Road, but driving his car southbound on the right shoulder. Reports from the CHP indicate that Yuen steered to the left, tumbling over the embankment. The car struck two trees, causing Yuen to black out. A fire engulfed the car, and Yuen later died of injuries from the flames. An investigation into the accident is continuing.

    Annual food fest takes place Sunday

    A Place for Teens holds its sixth annual Great Los Gatos Food Fest on Aug. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Town Plaza on E. Main Street and S. Santa Cruz Avenue. Participants can purchase tickets for $1 each and sample food from restaurants such as C.B. Hannegan's, Dolce Spazio, Double D's and California Café. There will be entertainment by three different bands from Music in the Plaza.
