Timber harvest public meeting set

The state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection will hold a meeting to hear public comments on an application for a timber harvest on 125 acres of hillside above Lexington Reservoir. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m., in the council chambers at Los Gatos Town Hall, 110 E. Main St.

Big Creek Lumber, a Santa Cruz County company that specializes in environmentally sensitive logging, wants to log a hand-picked selection of trees on the property.

The land is part of the property owned by Oregon-based Arlie Land and Cattle Co., which was recently sued by golf course developer Pete Denevi for voiding his option to buy part of the land.

For more information, call the CDF resource management office in Felton, at 831/335-6740.

Sorry, it's back to school for you, too

Kids who may have thought that their school--through some strange twist of fate--would not start again this fall will, in fact, be going back to class.

In the Aug. 12 issue of the Los Gatos Weekly-Times, two schools were inadvertently left off the school's opening list. Union Middle School and Alta Vista School will both have their first day of school on Sept. 1.

Town Chamber plans mixer

The Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce holds an after-hours mixer at the Cedar Creek Alzheimer's and Dementia Center Thursday, Aug. 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The center is located at 15245 National Ave., Los Gatos.

Cost is $7 for chamber members and $10 for non-members. Drinks and snacks will be served.

For information or directions, call 354-9300.
