Sports BriefsCatfish Swim Swimmers will splash into the waters of Lexington Reservoir on Aug. 30 for the Catfish Swim II, part of the Red Bull Bay Area Open Water Swim Series. It is the only time of the year to legally swim in the reservoir. The event will begin at 9 a.m., and swimmers will compete in 1.2- and 2.4-mile events. There will also be a 2.4-mile, two-person relay. Wetsuits are allowed. The course will run counterclockwise around Lexington and will be marked by large neon buoys. The event will feature a water start and a land finish. The registration fee is $25 by Aug. 23, or $35 on race day (relay teams add $5). Cats Classic The Los Gatos United Soccer League will hold the Los Gatos Cats Classic boys' select soccer tournament Aug. 29-30 at Fisher, Van Meter and Union schools. The tournament will feature divisions for boys' under-10, boys' under-11 and boys' under-14 teams. For more information, call John Cleveland at 358-9289. Junior Basketball The Los Gatos National Junior Basketball League will hold signups for the 1998 season on Sept. 15, 7-9 p.m., in the cafeteria at Blossom Hill School. Players in the third-eighth grades who live in the Los Gatos and Leigh high school districts are eligible. Players are accepted on a first come-first served basis for the competitive basketball league, and space is limited. Youngsters must provide a copy of their birth certificate at the registration.
