Los Gatos Weekly-TimesYSI holds Ron's Wildlife RunThe nonprofit Youth Science Institute has planned its 15th annual Ron's Wildlife Run for Sept. 13 at Lake Vasona County Park in Los Gatos and continuing through parts of Los Gatos. Less seasoned runners can participate in 5K run/walk. Children 12 and younger can run in a kid-sized 2K race. Both of the shorter races take place within the confines of the park. The Wildlife Run is named for the late Ron Becker, a running enthusiast and former YSI vice president. He created the 10K race in 1983 as a fundraiser for YSI as well as a chance to run in another race. After his 1988 death, friend Jack Hubby--current president of the YSI board of directors--suggested that the race be named in Becker's honor. Proceeds from the race benefit the YSI's many science education programs for children and science fans of all ages. The YSI runs interpretive nature centers in three Santa Clara County Parks: Vasona in Los Gatos, Sanborn Skyline in Saratoga and Alum Rock in San Jose.
