Los Gatos Weekly-TimesOn CampusLGHS graduate makes Notre Dame dean's list Matthew Daily was recently named to the dean's list at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind., for the spring semester. Daily, son of Terrence J. and LeeAnne Daily of Los Gatos, maintained a 3.4 or higher grade-point average during the spring semester to qualify for inclusion on the dean's list. The 1994 graduate of Los Gatos High School will be a senior in the fall at the university's College of Arts and Letters. He majors in American studies. Sprint phone customers can dial for dollars to go to Los Gatos schools The Sprint telecommunications company has become part of a program, called A+ America, which allows its customers to donate a percentage of their residential phone bills to schools in Los Gatos. Customers can call 800/233-6080 to register their existing Sprint account or switch to Sprint and participate in the program. Consumers will then receive an ID number for the school of their choice. A percentage of their long-distance phone bill will then automatically be donated to the school specified. Los Gatos schools in the 95030 ZIP code to choose from include Rolling Hills Middle School, St. Mary's School, Lexington Elementary, C.T. English Middle School, Loma Prieta Elementary and Lakeside Elementary. Schools interested in enrolling in the A+ America program can call 800/256-9469. All K-12 schools are eligible. Redistricting committee announces location The Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization has announced that its Aug. 27 meeting will be held at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, starting at 6 p.m. The committee plans to discuss fewer and more specific scenarios at the meeting, according to Larry Shirey, senior research analyst for the Santa Clara County Office of Education. The committee had canceled its July 23 meeting after holding a public forum on June 19, at which some 400 people attended. The input from the forum is being used to narrow scenarios from six suggested redistricting plans announced in late May. Community Hospital Auxiliary honors three LGHS graduates Biren Kamdar, Brooks Brodrick and Peter Carter, all recent Los Gatos High School graduates, each received a $2,000 scholarship from the Auxiliary of the Community Hospital of Los Gatos. Kamdar will use his scholarship toward his tuition at Stanford University. Brodrick will attend the University of Texas, and Carter will attend Columbia University this fall. All three students plan to pursue careers in the medical profession. The Auxiliary gave out a total of eight scholarships this year, funding the awards with monies from the hospital gift shop.
