Arrests made in explosion case

Los Gatos police made two more arrests related to the July 20 case of an explosion at 16171 Sunray Drive, the alleged site of the illicit manufacture of methamphetamine.

Robert Harden, 32, was arrested at about 7:24 a.m. Aug. 5 by officers after the LGPD received an anonymous tip that Harden was in the Sunray house. Marlene Vieira, 18, who police believe lived at the house, was arrested at the same time.

According to LGPD Sgt. Tricia Friedrich, both suspects remained in custody at press time. Harden is being held on $100,000 bail; Vieira on $15,000.

Aug. 5 was the first time since the actual explosion that police came in contact with Harden; he disappeared from the scene July 20, soon after meeting two police officers at the door and telling them the burns on his body were caused by an exploding barbecue in the back yard.

A third suspect, Marc Berbig, was arrested July 20 on outstanding warrants. All three individuals have been charged by the district attorney's office with the manufacture of a controlled substance, and possession for sale of a controlled substance. They were also charged with the cultivation of marijuana.

Following the explosion, LGPD Capt. Jeff Miller said, police officers and agents of the California Department of Justice/Bureau of Narcotics Enforcements "clandestine lab" team conducted a search of the house and grounds and discovered evidence of the manufacture of methamphetamine.
