The Prowler
With neither a rambling prelude nor an apology for being self-serving, the Prowler would like to make an appeal on behalf of an animal. In this case it's a canine friend named Goldie. This 3-year-old gal is of Asian and European lineage: part German shepherd and part Shar-Pei! Don't let this unlikely combination fool you--she's definitely a cutie!
According to the folks at The Pet Network, a nonprofit pet rescue, a fostering and adoption organization based in Saratoga, Goldie is at the top of the list for a new home. It's not that she's a "problem child"--far from it! In fact, not only does she like other dogs, she also likes cats, birds, kids, walks, car trips and snuggling on beds.
The only reason The Pet Network contacted the Prowler with this "rush order" is because Goldie's foster parents are moving out of state very soon. Instead of shuffling the playful pooch into more foster care, the network hopes to find her a permanent home. Goldie's glamour shot is available online at www.petnetwk.org/dogs.html. For more info, contact the Pet Network via the website, or call 408.450.2452.
Would it be a stretch if the Prowler used the above mentions of Saratoga and an Asian dog breed to talk about an upcoming program at Saratoga's Hakone Gardens? If so, too bad, as this cat is overtired! At any rate, the Prowler heard of an interesting course titled Basic Survival Japanese being taught on Tuesdays from Sept. 4 to Oct. 23 by Atsuko Ikebe, a native speaker of the language. No previous Japanese knowledge is required. The course also includes calligraphy lessons by Sumako Minato. Call 408.253.1451 or email akochan@yahoo.com.
