    Commissioners want more green

Planning commissioners sent PG&E back to the drawing board last week, asking the utility to do a better job of screening its new Vasona Substation on Winchester Boulevard.

Commissioners told PG&E to use redwood and oak trees and to plant thicker landscaping.

The commission also considered an application by District Attorney George Kennedy, who wants to redraw the lot lines on his Johnson Avenue property. Kennedy's home sits on one of the lots, and he wants to subdivide that lot into two parcels, then adjust the lot line between the old and new parcels.

Commissioners continued the item to their Sept. 8 meeting.

    TCI steps on KCAT's toes

Community access station managers were fuming this week over TCI's announcement that it plans to push KCAT-Los Gatos, KSAR-Saratoga and KMVT-Mountain View, out of their slots on Channel 6, which the cable provider says it will hand over to KICU-36.

KCAT General Manager George Sampson says that the move would violate KCAT's franchise agreement with TCI, and that KICU has no claim to Channel 6.

Sampson says he'd negotiate with TCI and KICU (which is for sale), except that he can't get anyone at TCI to return his phone calls.

Town Attorney Orry Korb has sent two letters to TCI on behalf of KCAT, but both of those have gone unanswered as well. TCI, which is now part of AT&T, plans to make the switch Sept. 22.

Sampson says he's looking into his legal options, including an injunction.

KCAT gets most of its $33,000 annual operating budget from the town of Los Gatos and the city of Monte Sereno.
