    The Prowler

Although this independent cat admittedly does not wear a collar, the Prowler knows how important it is for pet owners to make sure their feline and canine friends are easily identifiable if lost. But what about lost children? Obviously most people don't fit their kids with collars or tags, but that doesn't mean nothing can be done.

On Sept. 16, the Town Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor the KidCare Photo ID event at AIM Mail Center in the Downing Center at the corner of Los Gatos-Almaden Road and Union Avenue. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., parents will receive free I.D.s for their kids. The purpose is to provide standardized, high-quality photographs of the children, along with vital statistics. Although parents hope never to use it, the I.D. can help authorities if the children are lost or abducted. Parents who've participated in previous years are welcome to have their youngsters' I.D.s updated.

Speaking of youth, don't miss the upcoming performances of the perennial hit musical Annie by a local group who good-humoredly call themselves the Shoestring Theatre Company. Operating in the Presbyterian Church of Los Gatos, at 16575 Shannon Road, this group of more than 50 adults and children will perform in the church social hall, Sept. 17-18 at 8 p.m. and Sept. 19 at 4 p.m. A freewill offering will be accepted at the door, and parking is free. For more information, call 356-6156.

Finally, now that school is back in session everywhere, the Prowler would like to remind drivers to please be extra alert for little people who are crossing the street or riding their bicycles to and from school.
