Local artists featured in Mountain show

Three Los Gatos residents--Monte Kawahara, Jen Raynes and Mary Simmons--are among 125 juried artists participating in the 35th annual Kings Mountain Art Fair. On Sept. 5-7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, the Kings Mountain Community Center, located at 13889 Skyline Blvd. in Woodside, becomes a festival of arts run solely by volunteers. All proceeds benefit community organizations such as the Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade, local public schools and the local 4-H club.

The event features paintings, serigraphs, sculptures, collage, photography, jewelry, wearable art, hand-crafted toys, heirloom furniture, art glass, quilts, hand-forged tools and weathervanes. Kawahara's contribution is ceramic bowls; Raynes crafts acrylic animals in both surrealistic and realistic styles; and Simmons creates embellished gourds, masks and fiber art.

Other activities at the festival include a pancake breakfast, children's games and nearby hiking trails. Food, soft drinks, beer and wine are available. Admission is free. For directions or more information, call 650/851-2710.
