Seven new benches paid for by donors have been purchased and will soon be installed in the downtown area, according to Shirley Henderson, chairwoman of the Los Gatos Downtown Association's Beautification Committee.
The committee proposed the idea of donor benches two years ago and worked with the town to select bench styles and obtain donors.
"The benches are just a small part of the streetscape plan that the town recently adopted," Henderson says, adding that more donors are being sought.
Donors can request a location for their benches among sites already approved by the town. For information on purchasing a bench, call Michael LaRocca, director of parks, forestry and maintenance, 399-5773.
Bench donors to date are: Teri Hope of Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Co. and Cully Ragan Plant, who paid for two benches apiece; and John and Lain Ehmann, James Kilkenny and Margaret Kilkenny, each of whom bought one bench. Plaques with the names of the donors are being made.
