The Prowler

Seemed like everyone was out and about two Sundays ago, and with good reason. Some party-minded people like to ring out summer with a public bang, while the more moody ones may need a little jump-start to remind them to get back into the groove of September, school and (in the future) cooler weather.

At any rate, this cat had a great time attending not one but two events with the rest of the town on Aug. 25. In the morning and early afternoon hours, the Prowler turned up at the Fiesta de Artes in Los Gatos Shopping Center, which was packed with people, pets, privies, performers and even a few police. There were also food and drink booths and an impressive array of arts and crafts vendors. Kudos to the Los Gatos Kiwanis Club for taking over and keeping the festive Fiesta alive!

The Hipnotics, a local rock band, never ceased to amaze this cat with their repertoire of songs that afternoon, ranging from the Beatles' "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" to modern rock classic "I Melt With You" by Modern English. They even belted out a handful of surf songs--must be the proximity to Santa Cruz.

Leaving that venue about $33 poorer but with a bag full of cool stuff, the Prowler headed over to another gala thrown by another service club--the Los Gatos Lions Club's annual Town Picnic. From a vantage point atop University Avenue, Oak Meadow Park looked like a lawn crawling with brightly colored bugs.

Upon actually entering the park, the Prowler listened to music from several more bands and watched eager little kids getting all excited over carnival-type games like hooking plastic fish in wading pools and rolling balls down slopes into holes.

Reminiscing about the simple joys of kittenhood, the Prowler took a ride on the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad (still chugging after all these years) and enjoyed chowing down on picnic fare with a few friends and a few pests--the latter being yellowjackets and tiny flies, of course.
