The Prowler
With Labor Day and summer vacation both behind us now, it's time for grown-ups and children alike to get back into the swing of doing the things they might not always want to do, but have to do nonetheless.
Having cool things to do, however, helps make the transition a little more palatable, and September is certainly a feast. First up is a concert on Sept. 7 by the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars at Congregation Shir Hadash, 16555 Shannon Road here in Los Gatos. The free show begins at 8:45 p.m., following a brief Kabbalat Shabbat (Sabbath) service. The group is described as playing spirited music with Yiddish motifs from Russia, Poland, Greece and Central Europe. This cat also hears the troupe can be pretty comedic as well! Call 408.358.1751.
If being out in nature is more your style, don't miss the chance to help beautify our waterways during California Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 15. Although it's a statewide activity, we have three very local places in need of sprucing up: Los Gatos Creek Park, James Lenihan Dam (at Lexington) and the confluence of Calabazas and Prospect creeks (in Saratoga). Call 408.268.2607 to learn more about joining the volunteer crews.
While on the topic of the Prowler's favorite place--the great outdoors--here's another opportunity to get back to nature. On Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District will offer a 4-5 mile guided walk among the woodlands, chaparral and meadows of St. Joseph's Hill Open Space Preserve, above Los Gatos. Bring a bag lunch and plenty of water. To sign up, call 650.691.1200, or visit www.openspace.org on the Net.
