Los Gatos man drowns at Vasona
By Jason Baker
A Los Gatos man working as part of the Santa Clara County sentencing alternative program drowned at Vasona Lake County Park on Sept. 3
Michael Moore, 39, was working as part of a county labor detail when he dropped his rake and began speaking incoherently and moving toward the lake with his hands over his head, witnesses said. Tamara Clark-Shear, spokeswoman for the county's Parks and Recreation department, said Moore walked toward the lake's boat ramp, where he slipped into the water.
A nearby park maintenance worker responded to the scene and pulled Moore from the water, Clark-Shear said. Park rangers on duty began CPR, but Moore never regained consciousness, she said. Rescue workers transported Moore to Los Gatos Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police late last week were investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning. Autopsy and toxicology results from the Santa Clara County Coroner's office were pending, police said. Clark-Shear said Moore had been diagnosed with epilepsy, but could not confirm that the condition played a part in his death.
According to LG-MS police officials, Moore lived on Melanie Lane in Los Gatos. The circumstances of the drowning are under investigation.
