Harris leads Panthers to win
Nick Harris picked off a pass and rambled 30 yards for a touchdown to lift the Los Gatos Panthers to a 6-0 victory over the Santa Cruz Sharks in Pop Warner football peewee division play.
The clubs were knotted in a scoreless tie when Harris stepped in front of the Santa Cruz pass and returned it to paydirt.
Leading the stellar defensive effort for the Panthers were Richie Scudellari, Stefan Fowler and Kevin McCarty.
McCarty, who doubles as the squad's quarterback, completed two of three passes for 30 yards before leaving the game with an arm injury. His favorite target was Thomas Watkins.
Running back Jeffrey West was the leading ground gainer for the Panthers.
In other games played by Los Gatos teams that week, the Tigers whipped Santa Cruz 25-12, the Cougars edged Santa Cruz 8-6, the Jaguars were blanked 25-0 by Oak Grove Central, the Bobcats lost 41-6 to Oak Grove Central and the Wildcats fell 12-0 to Santa Cruz.
In jamboree games played a week earlier, the Tigers beat Sunnyvale 13-12, but the rest of Gatos teams came up short. The Jaguars lost 43-0 to San Bruno, the Bobcats lost 34-0 to Mountain View, the Panthers lost 20-6 to San Bruno, the Cougars lost 18-0 to Oakland, and the Wildcats lost 32-0 to San Bruno.
