Veronica Rotondi

Longtime Los Gatos resident Veronica Catherine Rotondi died of cancer May 26 at the age of 67.

Rotondi was born Feb. 7, 1931, and worked as a registered nurse in San Jose. She was a parishioner of St. Francis Cabrini Church.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Francis Rotondi of Los Gatos; sons and daughters-in-law John and Connie Rotondi of Georgia and James and Melissa Rotondi of Stockton; daughter Mary Elizabeth Rotondi of Hillsborough and daughter and son-in-law Erin and Nathan Braun of Discovery Bay; and granddaughters Hope and Jessica Rotondi of Georgia.

Memorial services have been held.

Patricia True

Former Los Gatos resident Patricia Mullen True died June 16 at the age of 67.

True was born Sept. 2, 1930, in San Jose and attended University Avenue Grammar School and Los Gatos High School, from which she graduated in 1948. She was the daughter of Clarence "Pat" Mullen, an assistant Santa Clara County fire chief. Mullen Street in Los Gatos is named after Mullen's grandparents.

Mullen left Los Gatos in 1957 and went to live in the Sacramento area. She worked for Pacific Bell Telephone Company.

She was predeceased by her only child, Valerie Franks Herbert, and is survived by her son-in-law, Charles Herbert of San Jose; grandchildren John, Joshua and Keri Herbert of San Jose; and cousin Marty Robinson of Lafayette.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Los Gatos Memorial Park.

Hilma Hansen

Former Los Gatos resident Hilma Hansen died in Monterey July 18 of natural causes. She was 97.

Born Sept. 26, 1900, in Eugene, Ore., Hansen was raised on a farm and came to California in 1922 as the bride of Ed Eichenberger, who predeceased her. In 1964 she married Frank Hansen, who also predeceased her. She left the Los Gatos area and moved to Monterey in 1989.

While living in the Bay Area, Hansen was a homemaker and an active member of the Sons of Norway and San Jose Yacht Club. She loved to garden and bake cookies for her grandchildren.

Hansen was predeceased by her daughter, Velma Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Robbins of Monterey; stepson John Hansen; grandchildren Debra Lynn Thompson of Bozeman, Mont., Mark Robbins of San Antonio, Texas, and Michelle Eugene of Marina, Calif.; step-grandchildren John and Hugh Hansen; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Wesla and Caitlin Morgan and Melissa Eugene.

Memorial services have been held.

Jane Campbell

Longtime Saratoga resident Jane Woodworth Campbell died July 20 at the age of 88.

Born in Stratford, Calif., on Nov. 4, 1909, Campbell came to Saratoga in 1935. She earned a bachelor's degree and teaching credential as well as a master's degree in guidance and a secondary credential from San Jose State University. Along with teaching at Edison High School in San Jose from 1960 to 1971, she also worked to establish a Babe Ruth baseball team for Saratoga and Los Gatos, a Saratoga Pony League baseball team and a peewee softball team for Saratoga to enter in the Los Gatos Recreation League in the early 1950s.

Campbell and her husband, Virgil, owned and operated Campbell's Market in Saratoga for many years and in three different locations, all within a short radius of the intersection of Saratoga Avenue, Los Gatos-Saratoga Road and Big Basin Way. She was also active in numerous organizations, including the Saratoga Foothill Club, Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, Saratoga Federated Church, Los Gatos Eastern Star, Friends of Saratoga Libraries, the Saratoga-Los Gatos branch of AAUW and the PTA of Los Gatos High School, from which her sons graduated.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Virgil Campbell; sons and daughters-in-law John and Bobby Campbell of San Jose and Hugh and Louise Campbell of Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren Steve, Rick and Greig Campbell, Patty Lummis, Kris Cummings, Robin Boake and Jill and Molly Campbell; and great-grandchildren Brian, Brandon, Lauren, Sarah, Jenny, James, Max and Chloe Jane.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery, Saratoga.

Phillip Alexander

Phillip Howard Alexander, who lived in the San Jose/Los Gatos area, died of a heart attack Sept. 1. He was 40.

Born July 17, 1958, in San Jose, Alexander grew up fishing, bicycling and playing sports in one of the old orchard areas that used to exist along the borders of Los Gatos and San Jose. He graduated from Carlton Elementary, Union Middle and Leigh High schools. He later moved to Sacramento, where he became superintendent of a construction firm. His interest in fishing remained with him throughout life; his favorite spots were the Northern California coast and the lakes of the Sierra Nevada.

Survivors include his wife, Wendy Alexander of Sacramento; his father and stepmother, Nelson and Wilma Alexander of San Jose; sisters Patricia Alexander of Morgan Hill and Donna Bunt of Los Gatos; brother William of San Jose; and nieces and nephews Tommy, Rodney, Ginny, Connor, Becky, Jim, Jennifer, Jason, Farzam and Ramein.

Memorial services will be held Sept. 19 at noon at Los Gatos Memorial Park.
