Pearlman says assistant search is on the fast track

By Shari Kaplan

Los Gatos Union School District took all summer to find a new superintendent, Dr. Bert Pearlman; now it is he who must join the district in seeking a replacement for Assistant Superintendent Steve Peck, who will leave by Sept. 30 for a job with the Cupertino Union School District as principal of DeVargas Elementary School.

According to Pearlman, letters and notices have already been sent to administrators and school districts throughout the state to inform them of the available position. Applications will be reviewed by a professional screening committee, and interviews, reference checks and on-site visitations will follow. This will not be done on as large a scale as the search for Pearlman, however.

In the interim, Daves Avenue Principal Cleo Osborne will serve as interim assistant superintendent; because the LGUSD office shares the Daves Avenue campus, she will still be able to keep tabs on her school. Longtime teacher Glynnis McGee, also of Daves Avenue, will serve as head teacher and ensure that the school runs smoothly while Osborne is juggling duties.

"We're going to put this on the fast track and get it done as quickly as possible," Pearlman announced at the last LGUSD board meeting, Sept 11. Every effort will be made to keep the continuity of various responsibilities, programs and projects the district is involved in that are the domain of the assistant superintendent, he said.
