Local residents contemplate an uncertain future in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon

In the wake of the recent attacks on U.S. cities, local officials were quick to assure residents that Los Gatos doesn't appear to have the high-profile or strategic elements that would bring terrorists to town. Cities such as New York and Washington, D.C., do have a higher threat of attack because they contain institutions that are essential to the rest of the world, Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Chief Larry Todd said. If Los Gatos had some kind of large chemical processing plant, for example, then the threat would be higher, said Todd.
