The Prowler
Although many trees have been ushering autumn in early with prematurely colored and falling foliage--thanks to our strangely short and mild summer--the actual equinox finally rolls around on Sept. 23.
In case this season is also short and unpredictable, let's celebrate it while we can! Skyland Church has the right idea, with its annual Harvest Festival on Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the epitome of a down-home event, with country cooking; homemade jams, jellies and baked goods; gently used books, toys and clothes for sale; a silent auction for local handicrafts; face painting and music from a live band. Everyone is welcome, not just church members. The 100-year-old church is at 24100 Skyland Road, about four miles east of the Summit Road overpass, nestled in the mountains. For directions or more info, call 353-4366.
Speaking of entertaining, that's just what the Prowler expects these next two events to be. Reelthing, a South Bay-based Celtic trio performs jigs, reels, waltzes, airs and marches from Scotland, Ireland, Wales and, yes, even England, on Sept. 24 at Borders Books in Old Town, and on Sept. 26 at The Cats restaurant off Highway 17.
For those who prefer music and dance with a country & western flavor, don't miss the line dancing classes offered through the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation. There's a beginning basics class for first-timers as well as a class for those with a little boot-scooting already under their belt buckles. Both classes begin on Sept. 28, take place at the Neighborhood Center and run for eight weeks. Hoot and holler at 354-8700 to sign up!
