    Panthers, Cats tie

The Los Gatos Panthers and the Coyote Creek Wildcats battled to a scoreless tie recently in the peewee division of the Pop Warner Football League.

Rich Scudellari and Stefan Fowler were the defensive stars for the Panthers.

Brennan Barker led the charge in the offensive line that opened holes for backs Jeffrey West and Cameron Compton and protected quarterback Kevin McCarty.

A key play in the game was a pass interception by Justin Foard on a pass deflected on the defensive line by McCarty.

In other Los Gatos games last week, the Tigers lost 30-13 to Coyote Creek, the Jaguars were shut out 25-0 by Santa Cruz, the Bobcats were blanked 45-0 by Santa Cruz, the Cougars dropped a heartbreaker 19-12 to Coyote Creek, and the Wildcats were whitewashed 26-0 by Coyote Creek.

    Vikings win award

West Valley Community College rolled up 170 points to claim its second straight Coast Conference All-Sport Award. Chabot was a close second in the polling with 168 points, and De Anza was third with 164 points.

West Valley's two-point margin of victory over Chabot was said to be the closest finish in the past 10 years of the competition.

    Pitching program

An eight-week fall pitching program for baseball players ages 9-12 will run Tuesday evenings, Oct. 26-Dec. 14, in the gym at West Valley Community College in Saratoga.

The program teaches fundamentals, arm care and defensive skills. Players 9-10 attend at 7 p.m., players 11-12 at 8 p.m.
