The California Department of Motor Vehicles says computer-driven drivers can now do business with the department on the Internet.
Four popular forms can be downloaded at the department's Web site at http://www.dmv.ca.gov. And the driver handbook, traffic laws and a most-often-asked fact sheet can also be read on screen or printed out.
Department Director Sally Reed touts the service as a way to avoid long lines and to save time and says so far more than 100,000 Internet inquiries have been made.
The forms include one to change addresses, a bill of sale form for selling a car and a release form in case a new owner neglects to register ownership so that traffic tickets come back to the old owner.
Once completed, the forms are mailed to the department. A financial responsibility document request form is only available to attorneys and insurance companies since it carries private information, such as home addresses.
