CASA, community plan for fourth annual Peckler Relay

    Course routes vary

The Peckler Memorial Run and Relay is a testament to the adage that gone definitely does not mean forgotten. Quite the contrary--the event keeps the memories of Los Gatans Jim, Jill and Jeff Peckler very much alive.

It also honors them through its fundraising to support local nonprofit organizations that promote the healthy lifestyles that the father and two children advocated until their January 1997 deaths. A drunken driver collided with their car as they were traveling to Lake Tahoe. They are survived by wife and mother Judy Peckler and remaining children Jana and Jennifer.

Individual runners, walkers and relay teams of all ages are welcome to participate in the Oct. 15 event held at Los Gatos High School. The morning begins at 7:30 a.m. with registration for those not yet registered. A pre-race stretch commences at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. start.

Participants have their choice of four different routes, with lengths of 15, 10, 5 or 2 1/2 miles. All routes begin and end at the LGHS outdoor track and take runners and walkers through various parts of town. When the race is over, outstanding teams and individuals will receive awards and prizes, with refreshments and live entertainment for everyone.

Proceeds of the event benefit Community Against Substance Abuse (CASA), A Place for Teens and the Teen and Family Counseling Center. Entry fees are $150 per team and $30 for individual runners or walkers.

Peckler Memorial Relay entry forms are available at Athletic Performance, 55 W. Main St.; the Runners Factory, 51 University Ave.; and at The Fitness Clinic, 15405 Los Gatos Blvd. For more information, call Pam Dunnett at 408.867.2546, or Reiko Iwanaga at 408.867.4525.
