    The Prowler

Being a black cat--one who also enjoys creative costumery and savoring stolen sweets--the Prowler doubts anyone will be surprised that this cat's favorite holiday is Halloween. Then again, loyal readers already know this from previous years' columns!

The Prowler wants to remind all like-minded Los Gatans that the 6th annual Haunted Forest and Phantom Express is coming up in a few weeks! This community event runs Oct. 20-22 and 25-31, and centers around rides on the open-air Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad through Oak Meadow and Vasona parks. During this event, however, the parks are transformed into dozens of live-action scenes of horror, humor and sci-fi.

Along with Phantom Express rides, the Haunted Forest includes the Spooky Hollow kids' area, carnival games with prizes, a freaky n' creepy walking tour, a gift shop, barbecued food, hot drinks and snacks and entertainment! Proceeds benefit the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department's various volunteer organizations and crime prevention programs, the nonprofit Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad and local service clubs.

Tickets go on sale Oct. 7, at Collector's Corner, 481 N. Santa Cruz Ave. They're also available at Oak Meadow during the Haunted Forest, but by then certain train runs may be sold out. For more info, call 408.354.6842. That's also the number folks can call to join the volunteer force that puts the event together. The Prowler hears there's still a need for extra actors, game attendants, supervisors and technicians. A volunteer meeting takes place Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. at the Los Gatos Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St.
