Highway 17 repairs force lane closures

From Oct. 1 to Nov. 30, one lane will be closed in each direction on Highway 17, between Los Gatos and the Summit. Every Monday through Thursday, the southbound lane will be closed from 5 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and the northbound lane will be closed from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Caltrans has closed those lanes so that they can survey the area for drainage and road improvements. Caltrans advises drivers to plan to take more time driving on this section of the road.

Los Gatos hires a new director for public works

After seven months, Los Gatos has found a new director of parks and public works. On Oct. 22, John E. Curtis will start his job, replacing interim director Les White. Former director Larry Perlin resigned in March.

Curtis is currently the public works director for the city of Belmont. The director of parks and public works oversees projects such as downtown parking, the town plaza renovation and street resurfacing.

    Monte Sereno approves subdivision

On Sept. 18, the Monte Sereno City Council approved Bob and Gigi Spinazze's proposal to subdivide their Winchester Boulevard property into two lots. The applicant had followed the council's previous direction to meet with neighbors to try to save many of the trees and reduce the subdivision from three lots.

Via Sereno residents had requested that the council impose a condition to limit the homes to one story, but council members decided against this action.
