Local school district gets kudos from nationwide school database
This year, SchoolMatch, a Columbus, Ohio-based service that gives corporate employees information on public and private school systems throughout the United States, chose the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District as being one of only 2,356 districts in the nation that met students' and parents' needs. For the year 2001, SchoolMatch declared that only 15 percent of the nation's 15,620 public school districts provided what parents wanted, and awarded these schools its 10th annual "What Parents Want" award.
A compilation of more than 81,000 parent questionnaires showed that parents most often wanted to send their children to school districts that were competitive, but not too rigorous; accredited; recognized for excellence by a national foundation or the U.S. Department of Education; paid teachers competitive salaries; spent more than the national average on instructional materials and library/media services; and had small class sizes.
SchoolMatch maintains information on every public school system in the nation.
