    Peckler Memorial Run

    The fifth annual Peckler Memorial Run will return to Los Gatos on Oct. 7, featuring a number of different divisions and races for individual runners and relay teams.

    The event will begin at the Los Gatos High School track with participants running to Vasona Park and back.

    At the conclusion of the race, there will be a butterfly release to celebrate the memory of Jim, Jill and Jeff Peckler, who were killed by a drunk driver.

    The event will also help to kick off Red Ribbon Month, which focuses on substance abuse education in local schools.

    Cats host steak dinner

    The Los Gatos girls field-hockey team will host a steak dinner on Oct. 12, 5-7:30 p.m., in the patio room next to the small gym at the high school.

    The cost of the dinner is $15 and includes steak, salad, beans, desert, soda and coffee. Tickets are available from Los Gatos field-hockey players and will be sold at the door the night of the event.

    Coaches clinics

    Dick Davey of Santa Clara University and Bret Simon of Stanford will be the featured speakers at basketball and soccer clinics for high school and youth coaches to be held Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Mountain View High School.

    Davey, the men's head coach for the Broncos, will head up a list of speakers for the basketball clinic that also includes Mary Hile-Nepfel of USF, Bob Burton of West Valley Community College, Peter Diepenbrock of Palo Alto High School and Rich Forslund of Riordan.
