Vikings roll to win over Sequoias

Saladin Washington (Prospect) ran for two touchdowns and David Macchi (Willow Glen) threw for another to lead the West Valley Community College football team to its second straight win in Coast Conference play.

The Vikings, 2-2 for the year and 2-0 in the conference, turned back the College of the Sequoias in a Friday afternoon game at West Valley's Saratoga field.

Macchi hit Brian Davis (Pioneer) for 55 yards and a first-quarter touchdown to give the Vikes the early lead.

A safety late in the first period and a 2-yard touchdown run by Heath Ferreira (Valley Christian) helped the Vikings open up a 16-0 lead by intermission.

Washington scored on a 1-yard run in the third and a 9-yard run in the fourth to help clinch the win for the Vikes. Justin Basanese (Valley Christian) booted all four extra points for WVC.

The Vikings will try to make it three straight when they visit local rival San Jose City College for a conference game on Oct. 6, 7 p.m.

A day earlier, De Anza Community College will host the College of Marin in a Friday afternoon game at 1 p.m.
