The Prowler
Since this week's column has no unifying theme, it likewise has no rambling prelude!
This cat's friends at the Humane Society of Santa Clara Valley are promoting October as Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month. All of the cute pooches have passed the HSSCV's medical and behavioral evaluations before being offered for adoption. For more info, call 408.727.3383, ext. 823.
No dogs are allowed on the Youth Science Institute's upcoming Fall Night Hike, but humans are more than welcome. The next hike is Oct. 14, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Sanborn-Skyline County Park in the Saratoga portion of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Joined by a YSI guide, participants will go roaming in the gloaming and use all their senses to discover nocturnal animals and plants. Cost is $5 per person; kids under 10 must be supervised. Call 408.867.6940 for reservations.
It's not the Olympics, but Los Gatos' own Campo di Bocce is sponsoring the first-ever USA vs. China Friendship Games Oct. 6-8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Like the Olympics, it includes dignitaries: representatives of the French, Chinese and Italian consulates--France has been mentoring the Chinese team--and the presidents of the International Bocce Federation and the Western Sector of the USBF. Call Campo di Bocce at 408.395.7650 to learn more!
Finally, the Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation offers its Mothers & Daughters workshop on Oct. 7, from 1 to 5 p.m. It's about relationships and feelings and is led by a licensed therapist. Cost is $45; call 408.354.8700 to register
