Wildcats defeat Matadors

Martin leads Cats to cross country title





    Panthers, Tigers both nail wins

    Touchdowns by Cameron Compton, Jacob Whitaker, Jeffrey West and Stefan Fowler sparked the Los Gatos Panthers to a 27-0 victory over Almaden in recent Pop Warner Football League action.

    Compton broke a 28-yard run for a touchdown on the Panthers' first possession of the game, and Whitaker scored on a sweep in the second period.

    West went 20 yards off tackle for a third-quarter touchdown, and Fowler took a counter 18 yards for a score in the fourth.

    Richie Scudellari kicked the first extra point in Panther football history in the game, and he also blocked a punt. Nick Harris intercepted a pass and Brennan Kresser made a touchdown-saving tackle in the second period to help the Panthers secure the shutout. The Panthers are now 2-1-1 for the year.

    In other Pop Warner action, the Tigers (2-2) rolled to a 26-0 victory over Almaden.

    Jake Schonig scored touchdowns on runs of 70 and 75 yards and Nick Della Rocchetta went 55 yards for a TD to lead the Tigers to the win. Kellan Barker recovered a fumble for a touchdown and Chris LaBouff ran in for a two-point conversion.

    Matt Petrillo and Kevin Fowler were top blockers for the Tigers and Nick Smith led the club in tackles. Nick Kalpin knocked down an Almaden pass and Matthew McCarty sacked the quarterback.

    The Wildcats (0-4) dropped a 34-6 decision to the Almaden Indians in the midget division. Dayne McGee took off on a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to break up the shutout.

    McGee finished the day with 60 yards rushing and Mark Ericson supported with 20 yards on four carries.
