Wildcats defeat Matadors

    Baseball School

    The Doyle Baseball School for Los Gatos Little League players ages 8-12 will return to town on Oct. 16-17.

    The school features instruction in hitting, throwing and fielding, and offers "a step-by-step teaching approach that allows every player to get smarter about the game."

    School hours are 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. on Oct. 16 and 8 a.m.-noon on Oct. 17. The tuition fee is $70 per player before Oct. 8 (after Oct. 8, the fee is $90).

    Rowing Lessons

    The Los Gatos Rowing Club is holding introductory lessons for high school athletes on Oct. 9-10, 7-10 a.m., at Lexington Reservoir. Cost is $100. For information, call 408.998.8945.

    Pitching Program

    An eight-week fall pitching program for baseball players ages 9-12 will run Tuesday evenings, Oct. 26-Dec. 14, in the gym at West Valley Community College in Saratoga.

    The program teaches fundamentals, arm care and defense. Players 9-10 attend at 7 p.m., players 11-12 at 8 p.m.

    Roller Derby

    Roller Derby action will return to San Jose on Nov. 6 when the California Bombers will take on the Mid West Royal Rollers in the gym at Mt. Pleasant High School in East San Jose.

    The Bombers are led by women's captain Gwen Miller and the high-scoring Vicki McEwen, and by men's coach Frank Apodaca.

    Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. event are priced at $15 for track side, $12 for adults, $10 for students and $7 for children and are available at all BASS outlets, the San Jose Box Office and at Mt. Pleasant. For information, call 408.292.7783.
