Lions Club raises funds with its annual White Cane Days

Members of the Los Gatos Lions Club will be out in force Oct. 7 and 8 at various public venues with the club's annual White Cane Days fundraiser.

The event raises money to support the nonprofit Lions Blind Center of Santa Clara Valley, 101 N. Bascom Ave. in San Jose, as well as other programs and services benefiting blind and visually impaired people in the valley. Among the most popular activities at the Lions Blind Center are computer classes, "Cooking Without Looking" classes, Braille lessons and arts and crafts programs.

The center also helps people with limited sight or who are going blind to learn how to live as actively and productively as possible. Approximately 250 people currently use the center.

During White Cane Days, Lions will be at the main post office, Nob Hill, Lunardi's, Walgreens and both Safeways. As well as accepting donations, the Lions are also glad to share information about the club, which welcomes new members.

The Los Gatos Lions Club's focuses are on aiding people with various disabilities and providing local community service, improvements and scholarships. Its biggest fundraiser is the annual Town Picnic, held at summer's end.
